The Greatest Show On Earth?
Wednesday, August 12th, 2009 | Uncategorized | No Comments
Seems like anyone would just be setting themselves up for failure claiming such a thing, but as Oasis once said, if you go around claiming you’re the best in the world, at least half the the people will believe you…
In Other News: Jeff Jacobson, Porter Block, AND Shwa are playing at Rockwood tonight. Hell yeah!

Episode 023: Abbey Road Medley

This past Saturday night, Jeff Jacobson and I pulled one deep out of our old bag of tricks for the big Beatles tribute night at Bar 4. We haven’t attempted it in years, but it was time to bring it back out. Below is our acoustic take on the back half of Abbey Road. Enjoy!

Shelter From The Storm

After rehearsing with one Mr. Jeff Jacobson for the big Beatles Tribute night (taking place tomorrow night at Bar 4) we put on Blood On The Tracks and I was taken back in time.
I’ve worn out many albums through my life, but this one was spinning over and over when I first started learning guitar and writing songs. Immediately, the sounds and smells of Tallahassee and my early college years were at my fingertips.
About 10 years have passed, I can now play guitar (well sort of), I’ve written songs, I’ve made recordings, I got married, I’ve lived in about 4 different cities, family members have died, and family members have been born…..but for about 45 minutes I was transported to a time before all that. Every song that passed rattled different memories and feelings….good ones, sad ones, funny ones, depressing ones….but they all felt good.
And that’s the power of music….good music that is. I can only hope that one day, 10 years from now, I won’t hear Boom Boom Pow and be reminded of anything…
March Single Release – Thursday At Rockwood!
Monday, March 23rd, 2009 | Uncategorized | No Comments
Once again we’ve pushed it to the last minute….I’m sitting here waiting on the final mixes of the A and B side for this month’s single to be sent over from England….then it’s off to The Engine Room for a bit of mastering and duplication. I’ve just done a final mix on the C side this morning. This is my first experiment in mixing drums…and let’s just say I have a lot of respect for great mixers…..I’ve done all I can do….but hey, that’s what C sides are for!
Once again so much thanks go out to everyone involved who has made this possible!
…………….
This Thursday, March 26th, yours truly will be returning to Rockwood Music Hall to release “ABCs, Volume 3!” That’s right kids, three brand new tracks from the man who brought you ABCs Volumes 1 and 2.
Download volumes 1 and 2 for free here now! Come back and download Volume 3 on Thursday!

Let It Snow!

Once again, thanks to everyone who came out Saturday and made the Pianos show such a success! It was our first full band show in months, and it was incredible to have people dancing again!
Two singles down, four more to go. Looking forward to March 26th at Rockwood already. I hope you are too!
…………….
I came down to about a foot of snow on the car today….I couldn’t help but laugh at our Florida license plate. This little car of ours is surely not used to this….clearly, I am not used to it either!
I drove over to The Gowanus Carriage House, Peter Block’s studio, to resume recording of Porter Block’s next album, tenatively titled “The Gowanus Yacht Club.” The one and only Jamie Alegre has successfully laid down all the drums, and I’m now listening to Mr. Jacobson who is beginning to lay down guitars….and by lay down guitars, I mean, DOMINATE!
Episode 018: No, I’m The Dominator!

I really thought the whole ABCs thing was a good way to promote releasing music until I heard of Josh Freese’s (drummer from NIN) new album. Anyone want to go in on the $75,000 package with me!!??? I mean, the trip to Tijuana would be pretty tough to beat…Genius.
Yesterday, single #2 was mastered…once again, a lot of people on different continents have pulled together to make this happen, and I’m really excited about the final product! Come back here on Friday to get the first listen…..better yet, come to the show on Saturday and pick up one of the 50 free physical copies! The show itself will be a tequila inspired rock fest….new drummer, new guitarist, new facial hair…..it’s one not to miss.
I’m now off to a rehearsal with none other than Michael Leonhart for his own extravaganza on Friday night at Joe’s Pub at 8. If you’re looking for an incredible show to see that night, I suggest you go! If you’re free Thursday, head to Rockwood Music Hall at 8 to catch the masterful Jeff Jacobson in action…I’ll be singing with him too.
And now for a bit of happiness….
ABCs, Volume 2…Coming Soon…

The Gowanus Yacht Club

Ladies and Gentlemen, please mark your calenders for February 28th – 8pm….THAT, my friends, is the next Singles Release show at Pianos! Word on the street that there is gonna be an unofficial Margarita Club meeting that day. No points are being counted…this one’s just for the love of it.
My good friends from Porter Block will be releasing their new album right before at 7, so it’s a perfect opportunity to get drunk for pennies and then catch a couple of shows before the margaritas take full effect.
Speaking of Porter Block, I’m sitting here with an all star cast including Jeff Jacobson, Jamie Alegre, Andy Baldwin, and Peter Block in Carroll Gardens for the first day of pre-production on the next album from Porter Block. I’m pretty sure I can smell the Gowanus Canal….or maybe that’s just Jeff.
Peter cowrote all the songs on the album with some of my favorite songwriters and drinkers in the city including the legendary Luke Wesley, Wes Hutchinson, Paul Basile, Kyle Ervin, Nate Campany, Bryan Dunn, Jason Rabinowitz, Terry Raddigan, Jeff, and myself. Now we’re here trying to reign in all the different styles to fit on one album.
I’d talk more, but lunch just came, and I feel like getting fat.
