Luke Wesley Album Release Show!
Monday, July 5th, 2010 | Uncategorized | No Comments
We return to Rockwood (Stage 2) this Tuesday for bit of fun and a lot of dominance! As I’ve mentioned before, this is the album release of The Legend himself, Mr. Luke Wesley. I’m quite honored to have a spot on the bill with two of my favorite people and songwriters….the other being the lovely and talented Misty Boyce!

Rockwood Music Hall (Stage 2)
Free!
Misty Boyce @ 7:30, Luke Wesley @ 8:30

In Other News: Yesterday was July 4th….there were plenty of fireworks like when I dumped my drink on Matt Basile’s head. No one’s quite sure why this happened, but I can safely say alcohol was a factor. I can only assume he’s not happy about it and will be looking for revenge come Tuesday night. Luckily for me, I’m not sure there’s anything he could do that would ruin the gig more than his bass playing already does.
In Other Other News: Did I mention this show is free!??
In Other Other Other News: Did I mention that I co-produced Luke Wesley’s album, and that you can and SHOULD download it here!
In Other Other Other OTHER News: Did I mention this is your last chance to see us for a while? The next band show will be August 19th at Highline Ballroom with Paula Valstein!
The Big Week
Monday, July 6th, 2009 | Uncategorized | No Comments
Well, the week is finally upon us, and I have yet to finish ANY of my singles for the final installment of the singles project – “ABCs Volume 6.” I figure I’ve got till tomorrow night to finish them, so I can get the magical 50 free copies printed up for Saturday. This is in between mixing Luke’s record, a few band rehearsals, recording a special cover song for another project, and reworking a Dan Torres song to be played on Thursday at Rockwood Music Hall………busy week…………but at least there’s a big payoff….Saturday night at The Gramercy Theatre.
I really hope you’re planning on coming and bringing friends! As someone notified me the other day, this is probably the biggest show I’ve ever played, so it’s quite exciting. It’s sure to be an incredible night with Matt Singer, Pearl And The Beard, and Wakey!Wakey! rounding out the set.
So yeah, this is a big week, I just want to make sure I survive it………
What Really Happens In The Studio…

Day 3 of recording Mr. Wesley is underway, and there’s no better way to start a day in the studio than checking out some youtube classics.
Here are a couple of my favorites we viewed this morning….funny enough, I think the underlying music on both of these videos is really gonna help us direction wise from a production standpoint….

The Legend

The one and only Luke Wesley, Mr. 11, began recording his debut album about 3 hours ago, and Peter Block and I are in the producer chairs….move over George Martin! We’re scheduled to do 10 songs in the next five days, and the album will be released in the Fall on Engine Room Recordings. Quite exciting.
Luke’s got some of the best songs around, so we’re just gonna do our best to not mess them up! I’m not making any promises though…………………………..
Looking forward to a great week in the studio! NIIIIIIIIIICE!
Locked Out In Our Underwear

Maybe it was the pig getting his revenge…maybe we’re just morons…
It was about 10:30 Saturday night when Langhorne heard the faint sound of fireworks coming from outside, but when we dashed over to the window, we saw nothing. Sure I was in my boxers and nothing else, but why not head up to the roof to see if I could see anything worth seeing?? It was beautiful….a massive fireworks display right over the Statue of Liberty from my angle….it was quite a sight.
“Langhorne, hurry up, you’ve GOTTA see this,” I screamed. The next thing I heard was the door slam, followed by “Oh shit!” Oh shit is right….
I looked down to the bottom of the stairs to see those big brown I-know-I’ve-done-something-wrong eyes staring up at me….like a puppy dog who had just peed on my leg….and then crapped on my sandwich. “Tell me you have the keys,” she said. All fell silent. The fireworks had stopped, but of course, they were just starting.
Now, me in just my underwear and her in hers and a t-shirt began the blame game, and by blame game, I mean her screaming at me (though she knows whose fault it really was). The arguments soon turned to laughter which soon turned back to “oh shit, what the hell are we gonna do?” No cell phones, no anything…..hmmmm.
She then had the nerve to say, “just go over to Bar4 and ask to use their phone to call a locksmith.” Did she really just say that?? Really….REALLY!!!?? I figured a neighbor’s phone was a better bet…..but still, there must be a better way.
Then it hit me, I had left the window open…..if I could just get onto the fire escape, I could break in! The new argument of the night turned to who was going to knock on the neighbors door for help. Personally, I’d rather a girl in her underwear come asking for help rather than a guy in his, but Langs wasn’t going to budge on this one. Thus I began the walk of shame downstairs….took a deep breath….and knocked on our neighbors door….humiliation ensued.
Of course, thank God they were even home. After explaining the situation and sharing some more laughs, they gave me a flashlight, opened their window, and up I went! The only thing I could think of while tearing a hole in my screen was that someone from the neighborhood watch was going to shoot me. However, I made it through and all ended happily.
Ahhhh…you know, it could have been much worse really.
…………..
In Other News: I’m playing a little live recording show tonight, with none other than The Legend himself, Luke Wesley. It’s $10, but there are free drinks from 8-8:45. If you’re in Times Square and tired of walking around people staring up at all the lights and skyscrapers, come on out.
Everyone only plays 4 songs, so it will be short and sweet.
~The address is 723 Seventh Avenue b/t 48th & 49th street. Penthouse Floor New York, NY 10019. Push the PH or penthouse button in the elevator. You must take the first elevator to your left when entering the building. Don’t worry there will be signs directing everyone.

4 Sisters And A Funeral
Friday, March 6th, 2009 | Uncategorized | 2 Comments
God save me, Langhorne’s sisters have all arrived to town today and will be here all weekend.
What happens when you put 4 strong minded sisters in close quarters for 3 days? Gee, I’m glad you asked, and the answer is simple….FIGHTS! I’m pretty sure I can count on a handful blowouts between them.
I’m just gonna try to smile and keep my distance when I feel the earth start to shake. Should be an exciting weekend!
If you’d like to meet the sisters, I’m pretty sure we’ll be at Luke Wesley’s 3PM show tomorrow afternoon at Rockwood. We’ll follow that by a proper margarita session….we couldn’t possibly have them in town and not introduce them to our crack laced friends. Do show if you’re free, you should know where by now…
The Gowanus Yacht Club

Ladies and Gentlemen, please mark your calenders for February 28th – 8pm….THAT, my friends, is the next Singles Release show at Pianos! Word on the street that there is gonna be an unofficial Margarita Club meeting that day. No points are being counted…this one’s just for the love of it.
My good friends from Porter Block will be releasing their new album right before at 7, so it’s a perfect opportunity to get drunk for pennies and then catch a couple of shows before the margaritas take full effect.
Speaking of Porter Block, I’m sitting here with an all star cast including Jeff Jacobson, Jamie Alegre, Andy Baldwin, and Peter Block in Carroll Gardens for the first day of pre-production on the next album from Porter Block. I’m pretty sure I can smell the Gowanus Canal….or maybe that’s just Jeff.
Peter cowrote all the songs on the album with some of my favorite songwriters and drinkers in the city including the legendary Luke Wesley, Wes Hutchinson, Paul Basile, Kyle Ervin, Nate Campany, Bryan Dunn, Jason Rabinowitz, Terry Raddigan, Jeff, and myself. Now we’re here trying to reign in all the different styles to fit on one album.
I’d talk more, but lunch just came, and I feel like getting fat.
The Margarita Club
Monday, January 12th, 2009 | Uncategorized | 3 Comments
There are plenty of ways to tell you’ve had too much to drink…..riding a mechanical bull is one of them. Starting a monthly drinking club however, is a whole other issue all together.
The inaugural meeting of the minds (or lack thereof) at Pianos was a huge success….especially considering the fact that over thirty people showed up IN A SNOWSTORM to drink FROZEN DRINKS for 3 hours. If you’re unclear about what these drinks do to the human brain, CRACK an egg on a sizzling frying pan….or go check out some of the entries in The Margarita Diaries.
It was a monumental night….one legend of a man had 9 (yes, 9) in two and a half hours….I would not have thought it possible if I didn’t see it with my own eyes…at one point…disappointed by having to wait between drinks, he ordered 3….for himself….wow.
The party did not stop at Pianos….no, in an unparalleled lack of group judgment, the whole crew braved the storm and traveled around the corner to Mason Dixon where we took turns riding a mechanical bull??? I believe I almost got thrown out for not following the rules….or at least this is what I’ve been told. I don’t remember anything after 5pm.
If you have a story yourself, please, don’t feel bad about sharing in the diaries…..we are all in this together…..acceptance is the first step….it will make you feel better to get it out there. You can remain anonymous if you wish. There will be monthly meetings….if you’d like to know more and you’re on facebook….come be a member, and make that membership official by joining us. You will not be dissappointed.
