Milk Duds…The Poor Man’s Rolo…
Monday, December 7th, 2009 | Uncategorized | 2 Comments
We’ve all been there….the money’s coming in, everything is comfortable and happy. There is excess…and there are Rolos.
But we’ve all been here too….money’s tight….and it’s the holidays. There’s so much going out, and not enough is coming in. Yes, sometimes you’re forced to make a choice….sometimes you have to go with Milk Duds.
Of course there are a lot of great things about the Milk Dud, the harder caramel, no wasted time unwrapping each individual candy, AND the “35% less fat (Than the Average of the Leading Chocolate Candy Brands)” – note that Milk Duds freely admits it is NOT one of the leading chocolate candy brands right there on the box!!! Not to mention the fact that they’re not quite good enough to finish a pack in a single sitting, so once again, they’re great for the dieters out there. As a matter of fact, if I worked for the company, I’d suggest a new slogan, “Milk Duds – Keeping You Lean.”
On the other hand, you’ve got the real deal….under that golden foil lies something so magical, something so heavenly, something so good, it defies definition…..unlike the Dud, whose moniker says it all…
It hurts to even write this, but today I was forced to make the choice….ahhhhh, if I only had a few more cents!! But I made the choice I had to make, and I must say, I’m feeling thinner already!
This holiday season I wish you all something simple….may the Rolos be plentiful. Happiness and joy and good times for all will surely follow if that is the case!
In other news: Mike Grubbs of Wakey!Wakey! and The Dutch Master will be on One Tree Hill tonight….I hear some big things will be happening. Now I know you probably record it every week, but just in case you haven’t set your VCR, Tivo, DVR, eh whatever it’s called up, do so now!
6 Cents Closer!

You can imagine my excitement when a check from ASCAP arrived at my door on Saturday afternoon. It was like Christmas had come early….this must be my first big royalty check from the One Tree Hill placement…who knows, maybe I’m getting radio play from somewhere too!!??
My fingers fumbled around, ripping opening the letter…..my eyes wide with excitement. All the while thinking to myself, “this’ll show Langhorne that I’m not just wasting my time with this music thing. All this hard work I’ve been putting in is finally starting to pay off…and this is just the beginning!!!”
I finally got the thing open, and there were papers upon papers…I flipped through it all and made my way to the good stuff….the check.
And there it was……..6 cents. 6 CENTS!!!?? If you can imagine watching a moving vehicle full of hope and joy and anticipation slam into a wall of disappointment and self loathing at warp speed, then you can get a glimpse into the inner workings of my brain and soul at that very moment.
Now I finally know what this guy felt like. (Of course, at least he got a 1 year membership to the jelly of the month club!)
Upon further inspection, I got down to the bottom of it, and I would like to take this moment to thank whoever it is out there for playing my song in South Africa….I can’t say that it’s gonna save my marriage, but it’s something!

The dutchmaster recently gave an interview with the One Tree Hill Podcast, check it out! I’ve listened, and it sounds like a bunch of propaganda to me, but what do you expect from a guy from Maastricht!??
A Great Walk Spoiled
Monday, June 1st, 2009 | Uncategorized | 2 Comments
Last night I returned to the United States and walked into a clean apartment and CURTAINS! Thank God! I passed out around 7 watching Slumdog Millionaire only to wake up a couple of hours later to watch Andy Samberg make the MTV Movie Awards somewhat watchable for the first time in a long time.
………….
Ireland was pretty incredible. Beautiful country, great drinking, lovely people, and great time spent with my father and a few of his friends and their sons. My dad’s work with professional golf has had him traveling for over 30 weeks a year ever since I have been alive. Leaving for Nashville after college, and then to New York to continue chasing the music dream, has only given us less time together over the years, so it’s a week like this that I cherish.
We played a bunch of golf…though I wouldn’t dare call it golf…we were all pretty pathetic. The game has often been dubbed a good walk spoiled, but at least this was a better walk than most. Once we got over our lack of ability, we were able to take in the sights and enjoy the time together. It was a great time and a trip I’ll always remember.

Episode 022: Roll Your Windows Down – One Tree Hill

In case you missed it, watch it here! Complete with scenes of naked women, magic, and hoop dreams! I couldn’t ask for anything more.
Monday night, The Dutchmaster, Wakey!Wakey!, Langhorne, Lauren, and I sat down to watch all the drama unfold. It was a pretty surreal experience to watch our songs play on a television show. Pretty awesome I must say!
*Big thanks to my good friend Vince Sabatini for sending me this DVR-ed clip in such a timely manner!

For all of you in NYC…
I’m currently sitting at Engine Room finishing up some final mixes for “ABCs, Volume 5!“ We’ll be releasing it on Friday night at The Living Room at 9PM….so, we’ve still got about 55 hours before putting them in your hands….just seeing how close we can cut it here.
There will be no show in June, so make sure you come to this one. That’s right, our final release will be at The Gramercy Theatre on July 11th with Wakey!Wakey! and more….it’s sure to be quite a happening. NIIIIIIIIICE!

The margaritas will be flowing tomorrow afternoon, and I couldn’t be more excited. This will be the first Margarita Club ever without our fourth officer Dan. In his absence, I suggest we all try to have one extra! I hope you all come out for what is sure to be a good time.
The most dangerous $4 margaritas in the world! – Saturday, 4:30PM-7:15PM – Pianos

In Far Less Important News:
I know you’ve all got your TiVos and DVRs programmed for Monday night, so eventhough I know I don’t need to remind you to listen for “Roll Your Windows Down” during the season finale of “One Tree Hill,” I’m gonna do just THAT! Check your local listings, and impress your friends by singing along to a song no one has ever heard.

In Shockingly Less Important News:
It’s that time again to play some live music and release some new recordings. That’s right, NEXT Friday, May 22nd, we return to The Living Room to celebrate the release of “ABCs, Volume 5!” FYI: You can still get “ABCs, Volumes 1-4″ for FREE here.
Once again, we’ll be playing some new songs and experimenting with the overall sound of the show. SPOILER ALERT: Rumor has it that this guy may make an appearance!
If that wasn’t exciting enough, the lovely Jamie Leonhart will follow my show and The Say So’s will follow her….playing their second show EVER.

The Big News…
Friday, April 24th, 2009 | Uncategorized | 6 Comments
I’m quite excited to announce my first TV placement EVER!
A few weeks back, I got an IM from The Dutch Man himself telling me the fine people from “One Tree Hill” were asking about the song “Roll Your Windows Down.” I thought to myself, well surely they’re not gonna use my little demo recording of it?? However, to my shock, a few days ago another IM popped up…the news was official. They will be using the song in the season finale on May 18th. Wooooohoooooo! If it’s not already on your calender (which I’m sure it is) mark it, and watch!
Funny enough, my fellow label mate Wakey!Wakey! will have his first placement in the same episode….quite a big night for Family Records I’d say.
We plan on celebrating the big news next Thursday (April 30th) at The Mercury Lounge….you should be there. It’s a double release….”ABCs, Volume 4″ for me, and “The War Sweater EP” for Sir Wakey. The glorious Bryan Dunn will close down the place. It’s gonna be quite a party! Do come.
PS – Lest we forget….I assume we’ll be doing our fair share of celebrating tomorrow afternoon at Pianos. I think you know what this is all about.
