The Limewire Sessions!
Thursday, September 2nd, 2010 | Uncategorized | 2 Comments
Sir Gilber Gilmore and I had the pleasure of playing a couple of songs for the Limewire Music Blog last week. The Dutchmaster was very impressed that I took this opportunity to promote the new album by playing two songs that are not on it. Quite impressive if I do say so myself…………..
I also got to do an interview with the lovely and talented Maddy Wyatt where I may or may not have broken the international record for saying “uh” or “um” for the most times within a five minute period. I’ll let you go to their blog if you really want to see THAT!

Cross-Pollination 299 – The End!
Monday, August 30th, 2010 | Uncategorized | No Comments
Back when I first met the infamous Dutch Man, he had this hair-brained idea to start a weekly music series with his friend Jay Goettleman….you may know him as Mankind. Fast forward 6 and 1/2 years, and they’re calling it quits. Yep, that’s right, you heard it here first, they’re QUITTERS!
Tomorrow is the final Cross-Pollination as we know it…#299! Producer extraordinaire, Chris Cubeta, and I have been asked to be the guests. It’s sure to be an absolute catastrophe….but still, it’s quite an honor!
I will be celebrating by having a margarita or seven beforehand, so you should run down and join me before I black out onstage.

Cross-Pollination #299
Tuesday, August 31st…8PM – 10PM
Pianos (Main Room)
$5 (unlimited guest list spots…let me know if you’d like to get in FREE!)
.
NOTE: This is the last “normal” cross-pollination. #300 will feature lots and lots of past performers.
Milk Duds…The Poor Man’s Rolo…
Monday, December 7th, 2009 | Uncategorized | 2 Comments
We’ve all been there….the money’s coming in, everything is comfortable and happy. There is excess…and there are Rolos.
But we’ve all been here too….money’s tight….and it’s the holidays. There’s so much going out, and not enough is coming in. Yes, sometimes you’re forced to make a choice….sometimes you have to go with Milk Duds.
Of course there are a lot of great things about the Milk Dud, the harder caramel, no wasted time unwrapping each individual candy, AND the “35% less fat (Than the Average of the Leading Chocolate Candy Brands)” – note that Milk Duds freely admits it is NOT one of the leading chocolate candy brands right there on the box!!! Not to mention the fact that they’re not quite good enough to finish a pack in a single sitting, so once again, they’re great for the dieters out there. As a matter of fact, if I worked for the company, I’d suggest a new slogan, “Milk Duds – Keeping You Lean.”
On the other hand, you’ve got the real deal….under that golden foil lies something so magical, something so heavenly, something so good, it defies definition…..unlike the Dud, whose moniker says it all…
It hurts to even write this, but today I was forced to make the choice….ahhhhh, if I only had a few more cents!! But I made the choice I had to make, and I must say, I’m feeling thinner already!
This holiday season I wish you all something simple….may the Rolos be plentiful. Happiness and joy and good times for all will surely follow if that is the case!
In other news: Mike Grubbs of Wakey!Wakey! and The Dutch Master will be on One Tree Hill tonight….I hear some big things will be happening. Now I know you probably record it every week, but just in case you haven’t set your VCR, Tivo, DVR, eh whatever it’s called up, do so now!
Digital v. Physical…

I’d like to share a bit of info I got via a tweet by The Dutchman earlier….
New Michael Buble is $14.99 on iTunes, $10.99 on Amazon (digital) $9.99 (physical).
Just read that again if you like….take your time….take it all in…..quite interesting isn’t it??? Charging MORE for mp3s? Who woulda thunk it!?? If there has ever been an acknowledgment that the CD is dead, this is it.
I can just see the bossmen around the ever shrinking morning meeting, “MP3s are all the rage….we should really be capitalizing on this!!”
Isn’t this what got major labels in trouble to begin with??? Overpricing for CRAP!!? They used to blame the middlemen…people like the manufacturing companies and the record stores….THEY are the reason that Britney Spears CD has to cost $19.99!
But wait, there is no middleman now, they can just have their intern email iTunes and CC every other digital retailer, and TADAAA, it’s up for the world to listen to! I’m not even gonna get into the facts on why $.99 a song is overpriced for an MP3, I just want to know how an album of MP3s can cost more than a physical disc with all that art and plastic?
Ehh, screw it, if I really want it, I can find it for free somewhere…

The dutchmaster recently gave an interview with the One Tree Hill Podcast, check it out! I’ve listened, and it sounds like a bunch of propaganda to me, but what do you expect from a guy from Maastricht!??
Smart Money!??

The only way I’ve proven I can run a business is straight into the ground, however, that has not stopped me from making it into an article on SmartMoney.com called “8 Lessons Rock Bands Can Teach Your Business!” Check it out….I’m lesson number 7….they even put my picture up….God, I miss that stache…..
Apparently, The Dutchmaster was interviewed by them recently, and both Wakey!Wakey! and I ended up being examples of how you too can make absolutely no money playing music.
No, but seriously, follow your dreams kids…unless your dream is becoming rich and famous being a musician…if that’s the case, be smart with your money, take two weeks off, and then quit…
Episode 022: Roll Your Windows Down – One Tree Hill

In case you missed it, watch it here! Complete with scenes of naked women, magic, and hoop dreams! I couldn’t ask for anything more.
Monday night, The Dutchmaster, Wakey!Wakey!, Langhorne, Lauren, and I sat down to watch all the drama unfold. It was a pretty surreal experience to watch our songs play on a television show. Pretty awesome I must say!
*Big thanks to my good friend Vince Sabatini for sending me this DVR-ed clip in such a timely manner!

For all of you in NYC…
I’m currently sitting at Engine Room finishing up some final mixes for “ABCs, Volume 5!“ We’ll be releasing it on Friday night at The Living Room at 9PM….so, we’ve still got about 55 hours before putting them in your hands….just seeing how close we can cut it here.
There will be no show in June, so make sure you come to this one. That’s right, our final release will be at The Gramercy Theatre on July 11th with Wakey!Wakey! and more….it’s sure to be quite a happening. NIIIIIIIIICE!
Cross-Pollination: The Mixtape, Volume 2
Friday, May 8th, 2009 | Uncategorized | No Comments
Cross-Pollination, which has been heralded by the New York Times as “an impressive feat of indie gumption,” will celebrate 5 years of supporting the best up and coming musicians with their 237th show on May 12th. The weekly concert series is offering the second volume in their free, commemorative mixtape series featuring exclusive tracks from artists who have played Cross-Pollination throughout the years.
Quite honored to have “Oh Me, Oh My” on the mix sandwiched between a couple of my favorites – Jukebox The Ghost and Jaymay. A lot of great artists and songs on here. Check it out!

Cross-Pollination not only offers audiences exposure to new music that is easy on their wallets (all shows are free!), but it fosters a community among artists. After Cross-Pollination collaborations artists have formed bands, gone on tour together, and even started dating!

02. Takka Takka – Silence (Son Lux Remix)
03. Alias Pail – Yo Sis!

The Big News…

I’m quite excited to announce my first TV placement EVER!
A few weeks back, I got an IM from The Dutch Man himself telling me the fine people from “One Tree Hill” were asking about the song “Roll Your Windows Down.” I thought to myself, well surely they’re not gonna use my little demo recording of it?? However, to my shock, a few days ago another IM popped up…the news was official. They will be using the song in the season finale on May 18th. Wooooohoooooo! If it’s not already on your calender (which I’m sure it is) mark it, and watch!
Funny enough, my fellow label mate Wakey!Wakey! will have his first placement in the same episode….quite a big night for Family Records I’d say.
We plan on celebrating the big news next Thursday (April 30th) at The Mercury Lounge….you should be there. It’s a double release….”ABCs, Volume 4″ for me, and “The War Sweater EP” for Sir Wakey. The glorious Bryan Dunn will close down the place. It’s gonna be quite a party! Do come.
PS – Lest we forget….I assume we’ll be doing our fair share of celebrating tomorrow afternoon at Pianos. I think you know what this is all about.
