The Say So’s?? Sounds A Bit Dutch To Me…
Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 | Uncategorized | No Comments
Tonight, my good friend Matt Singer plays the final show of his residency at The Living Room at 9PM….yours truly will be joining him for a couple of songs. You should come out!
Following him at 10PM is a new outfit that is 20% Dutch, The Say Sos. It is sure to be one for the history books…..the question is, will it go down as the WORST SHOW EVER?!! OR, will The Dutch Man prove that he is in fact what kept The Undisputed Heavyweights at the top for so long?? Your guess is as good as mine, but I’m putting my money on the former.
However it goes down, I will be there in the front row….drunk and booing…

The End Of An Error…

I don’t really have the words to describe last night’s show. It was much like my wedding day in the sense that I kept trying to take it all in, but there were too many emotions going on. An indescribable mix of joy, sadness, confusion, nerves, love, excitement and on top of it all, I had to put on a show…..and I wanted to put on the best show we’d ever put on. The show lasted an hour and fifteen minutes…it was a blur….and yes, we succeeded.
Many people have asked why the last one? Is it REALLY the last one? You just packed the Bowery Ballroom, and you’re gonna give THAT up???
It’s hard to explain…..once again, a mix of feelings. But for some reason, I think it’s the right thing to do. It’s been an incredible ride, and I can’t imagine going out any other way….See video below….

The Undisputed Heavyweights
Tomorrow Night, October 14th – Doors at 7PM
The Bowery Ballroom
$12 now, $15 at the door
*This is our final show….With Pearl and The Beard, Matt Singer, and Wakey!Wakey!
Tonight’s show is being filmed with four high definition cameras…..at Rockwood!!?? That should leave enough room for about 7 people in the audience….better get there early folks. Due to the HD cameras, I’ve been warned to stay away from wearing any heavy-caked make-up. DAMN, there goes my tribute to Ziggy Stardust! What next, I can’t wear spandex?
Really excited to share the stage tonight with such other great artists…I don’t think you could get a more diverse lineup whether it’s the crazy time signature, groove heavy Jeff Taylor, or the bluesman who sounds like he stepped out of 1883 Michael Daves, or the more tame gentle voiced singer/songwriter Greg Tannen. It’s something for everyone tonight.
And of course, please come out tomorrow night to The Bowery Ballroom, and help us celebrate the end of an errror, sorry, I mean era…I think, as we, The Undisputed Heavyweights, arguably the greatest and most influential band EVER, take our final bow. Wakey!Wakey!, Matt Singer, and Pearl And The Beard round out this Family Records Extravaganza that will have everyone in tears and cheers……………………
In other big news: Big congrats to my friend, the very talented songwriter Bryan Dunn, for getting engaged to his long time girlfriend Emily Rawlings last week! NIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!
Slow News Day…

It’s a slow news day here (well besides the 500 point drop so far on Wall Street. Thank goodness we’re spending 700 billions dollars to bail out the banks!) The times they are a-changin’.
Anyway, I figured I’d take this opportunity to talk about the big show next week. The Undisputed Heavyweights, the band I have had the pleasure of being in for the past four years, will go for one final knockout at The Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday, October 14th.
Tickets can be bought HERE! Remember kids, why buy 1 ticket when you can buy 4 for four times the price!!!???

Contrary to what one might think by looking at my strapping physique, I do not work out. I know this probably comes as a shock to most of you, but it’s true. This probably explains why I can barely move right now. Every muscle in my body (the few there are at least) is sore. Thank goodness for Junior and Eric, two great guys I had found on Craigslist to help move. I think without them, I would have actually died at some point yesterday. God knows there were a few times where I just wanted to walk towards the white light I was seeing.
When the mover arrived, I thought we were really screwed since his truck took up over half of the street. Honking ensued, followed by people hanging their heads out of their cars, throwing their arms to the sky, shaking their heads, yelling….yep, we’re back in New York. I spent the first 15 minutes directing traffic through the unforgiving space, and then I gave up on it….it was every man for himself at that point. Two and a half hours later we had moved everything first onto the sidewalk and then up to the apartment.
And now, I’m paying the price. I really just want to lay in bed for the next month or so, but as mentioned above, we, The Undisputed Heavyweights are playing tonight at Rockwood. This is our second to last, or I should say for you scholars out there, our penultimate show. The only time I sweat as much as I did yesterday is during a Heavyweights show. Right now I’m relying on adrenaline to get me through….unless you’ve got some muscle relaxers handy???
